Labial skin excess may occur on its own or after vaginal deliveries. It may be associated with pain in tighter fitting clothes or during certain activities like bike riding, or painful intercourse. Labial excess may be treated with skin reduction and reshaping. It can be done under local anesthesia or under general anesthesia.
Postoperatively, the patient typically has pain for several days requiring oral pain medication. The incisions use fast dissolving sutures. Patients must refrain from sexual intercourse for four to six weeks.
