Eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove skin excess and bags around the eyelids. The procedure uses incisions placed in the upper lid crease or just below the lower lid lash line to treat skin excess and bulging fat around the eyes. The procedure is sometimes performed for medical reasons when patients have excess skin blocking their upper visual field. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is usually performed in the office with local anesthesia, sometimes with an oral sedative.
Patients may experience bruising, and swelling may occur in the first few days. Swelling usually resolves fairly quickly with application of cold saline compresses which are provided to you. Topical eye ointment is applied to the incisions twice a day. Stitches are removed in one week. After that, the patient can apply non-allergenic makeup until any bruising disappears.
