Buttock lift is performed using large volume fat transfer from the waist to the buttocks. Volumes of 500 cc or more can be placed to each side, depending on the patient’s goals and the availability of donor fat. Large volume fat transfer to the buttock (Brazilian butt lift) is performed under general anesthesia. Smaller fat transfers can be performed in office. Since the waist is reduced while the buttock is augmented, an accentuation of the hourglass figure is achieved with this technique.
Some thirty to fifty percent of the transferred fat will resorb over time, so a larger quantity is transferred to account for resorption. Complications include nodule formation, or fat necrosis, in addition to the usual risks of surgery, such as bleeding and infection. This increases with increasing quantities of fat being transferred.
