Laser Hair Removal

Lasers offer the newest procedures available for the rapid, gentle removal of unwanted hair. In order to achieve the best results, proper use and expertise are absolutely necessary. Dr. Hagerty has both the training and experience to perform these procedures. The laser used at Mid Hudson Plastic Surgery Center is the Mediostar Diode Laser. It is currently the most widely adopted laser for hair removal.

Waxing, shaving and plucking, all produce temporary hair removal. The new lasers have been shown to produce permanent hair reduction after each treatment. The results of laser treatments tend to be additive, which means that more treatments yield greater degrees of permanent hair reduction. Individual results vary and cannot, of course, be precisely predicted, nor guaranteed. It is, however, encouraging that laser hair removal, when done properly, is effective in the great majority of patients -- men, women, adults and children, alike.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone. There are several factors which will influence the doctor's decision as to whether or not a prospective patient may benefit from laser hair removal. Some of the factors are the pigmentation of skin, its thickness, the degree to which the skin is tanned, the color of the hair, and the prospective patient's general state of health. The best way to determine whether laser hair removal will work for you is to make an appointment for a consultation with the doctor for an evaluation of your particular needs.

If you are deemed to be a good candidate, any area of your body can be treated, except areas adjacent to the eyes. The most common areas are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, around the nipples, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs.

As with any other treatment, some may patients experience adverse reactions. There may be changes in the skin's pigment, which may last for several months. Blisters and burns are rare but can occur occasionally, particularly in patients with dark skin. Most reactions are temporary.

Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments. It is the newest technology known to produce satisfactory results for hair removal.
