Second Best is Not An Option:
Choosing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

When it comes to your health and your body, carefully research is imperative. In your choice of a plastic surgeon we encourage you not to use a physician's low cost as the primary motivating factor in making your selection. We recommend, as do most authorities, that you choose only a plastic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Board certification demands a high level of requirements be met by "their" plastic surgeons. Keep in mind that any licensed physician is within his legal rights to advertise him or herself as a plastic or a cosmetic surgeon. Only Board certified plastic surgeons are required to meet the following minimum requirements.

  1. Graduation from an accredited medical school
  2. Completion of at least five years of additional residency
  3. Completion of three years of general surgery
  4. Completion of two years of plastic surgery
  5. The active practice of plastic surgery for two years
  6. Successful completion of written and oral examinations
Plastic surgery can be a rewarding option for many people. Choosing a board certified plastic surgeon assures you that you will get the optimal results and avoid the serious health complications that surgery can pose. When it comes to health care, second best should not be an option.
